We were very well looked after and met a lot of interesting people, the lunch was superb and we’d like to thank Bayer Crop Science and FACE for a fantastic day out!

We then had a great suprise when we were awarded the “Innovative Learning Award” and were presented by Jim Paice Minister for Agriculture and Gary Richardson Countryside Foundation for Education Executive.

Jewellery workshop, entertainment for the children

 We went as a family so the lead and bigger caravan Exhibition support unit 1 (ESU) and ours the exhibition support unit 2. We all settled down to shepherds pie, chips and veg.

 Off went the younger element to find fellow young Farmers and attend a bbq at a nearby field for birthday celebrations.

Monday was glorious –  all we weren’t promised and despite sun tan cream, we burnt! We explored the show and regularly met up at the Farming connect Lantra building where “Simply the Best Training ” were working hard.

we saw lots of farming friends during the day and seemed to be doing the same circuits of the show! We finished off watching the Dancing diggers in the Cattle ring.

Back to Caravan and bbq welsh steak and a bottle of red!

Younger element off to Young peoples village (YPV) and Ministry of Sound!  A loud evening followed which quitened down early hours of the morning. Compliments to Penmaenau who managed to keep the toilets clean and stocked through  this challenge.

Tuesday morning we awoke to rain, out came all the wellies and coats!! The rain persisted through the day and put a damper on the show and the main ring started to suffer.

Back to caravan for food cooked in ovens in both ESU’s as bbq out of question! YPV for youngsters again!

Wednesday was better sun out again but unfortunately the main ring had suffered and was now a mudbath, younsters struggled to surface this am – but we all managed to make it down to Youg Farmers enclosure to see Hannah Thompson (Llantrisant YFC representing Glamorgan) in “Stars in their eyes”, she was superb –  ”well done Hannah!” back to  YFC at 3.30pm for sing off of the “Duffies”.

We were very proud that Hannah Llantrisant YfC came 3rd in the Solo’s and it was a very close call.

Goldy Looking Farmers rapped their way into first position in the bands.

Also attended launch of Broadband support for “notspots” with Ieauan Wyn Jones. Good news for SME and individuals in these areas

Wednesday night saw the youngsters no further than ESU 2 too tired to go any further!!

Rhid and Lyn had to get up early for the woodworking competition!! all the others partied out! A vote of thanks was taken by the Llantrisant members to thank us  Advisory ( oldies) for their board and lodge

Thursday I was in  the NFU Pavilion and was runner up with Chris in the Rural Community Champion awards the winners were Gareth and Valmai Roberts from Denbigh.

Bridgend Canoes have used Lakeside as a training ground for many years and have turned up to help us with events and give people the experience of canoes after meeting in the RWAS many years ago. If you would like to contact them:

Last evening 16 Llantrisant Young Farmers came and had a go with an assortment of canoes, kayaks and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Most got very wet but the water was warm and a lovely sunny evening so all was OK!! There were all sorts of boats open,sit on top of , double you name it they tried it, perhaps we may have a canoe section in Young Farmers soon!!!

The new mower is doing well and Grampy is pleased with it, Rhys home from school straight up the field with haybob and forager tractor has just arrived. Thank you Dyfrig he’s just serviced her ready to go.

Late supper tonight then but happy farmers.

Puppy is confused - doesn’t know what all the excitement is and never seen the whole troop out on tractors before!!
